Birth is an Accident!!

Really, our birth is just an accident. Though, we and especially in my country, people do not want to talk about it but this s the most pious thing, and it is all natural, it was not a crime to be hidden. We, in all countries and cultures, celebrate the occasion of birth or birthdays. We have celebrations then why to feel bad when we talk about it. It was just an accident because one sperm and one egg came together and they reacted in a particular way (how and why, all those explanations are in science, they are beyond my knowledge) and the process of our formation had started. Gradually we got all our organs and when they were able to function independently, we came out in this world and opened our eyes to see the people saying that we were born, they were happy/sad and celebrating or somewhere they may be cursing if a daughter or a transgender was born, on the occasion without we knowing anything about it. We just happened to be there in all the natural ways, therefore I call it an accident and because there was no control of anyone in this entire process, none knew who is going to come out in what shape or size or gender identity etc.

Then starts the worldly drama, about which nothing is natural, this is the imposition of the caste/religion/color/class/any other so called identity, on which we had no control, rather either the society/tradition/the law of the land had some control but it was all by chance and therefore it was again an accident. Because we had no control on any of these outer attributes attached to us just like the inner ones which were formed within us because of the way our chromosomes joined each other and our body and behaviour were formed in a particular way.

Likewise, we also didn’t have any control over our nationality or refugee status or wealth our parents owe or place of birth or the list is long. Then the question remains that if the birth is an accident then why are we day in and day out fighting on the basis of these attributes which were not gained by us by choice, and therefore they must never be a question to be argued or to be compared. Rather if we want to argue something then they should be based on the things like our social behaviour or our work if that has some problem or if we are troubling to someone or if we are breaking any law or if we are part of any immoral activity or we are in any way not fulfilling our duties by choice etc.

Such discussions are never ending so I will stop here, but will also say that such discussions must come out so that people get a food for thought and once they start thinking on the practical realities, they will find that they are just fighting on the tiny issues created for the political gains, and of no use for us, most of them will automatically stop the fight, Because at the end of the day they all have mind to analyse rationale but they are still into the baseless fight because they are just not able to pause and think over these small things.

  1. In the context of your post, the word “accident” seems to mean “processes that we have no control over.” That is true. No human being controls what nation or family they are born into, and thus they don’t control the traditions, rules and restrictions imposed by their culture. However, I as a Christian believe in a God who is sovereign over all things. “O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it……My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139.
