Braga 1-0 Rangers: 8-team final of the European League, first game – as it happened | Europa League

Here is Nick Ames’ match report.

Rangers’ Scott Arfield talks to BT Sport.

A little different, sometimes it was like a basketball game, two teams tried to win it. We’ll take it back to Ibrox and we think we can win this game every time you meet this caliber. they will be good. They made it hard, they created an overload. I feel like we can win this draw. The fans traveled in large numbers, we will have 45,000 behind. It was always going to be difficult, it’s just half time. Morelos is a big player, there is no doubt. Everyone needs to adjust, he is greatly missed. It’s all about us playing on each other’s strengths, Alfredo can not play until the season. He can not help us. There’s no doom and gloom, we’ve set it up for next week.

Full season: Braga 1-0 Rangers

It goes back to Ibrox, and with such a small advantage for Braga, the Rangers have to think they can find a way back. For most of the second half, they were the better side and will have the home team behind them. 1-0, according to the new rules, without field goals, are decent results. The semi-finals are not out of reach.

90 + 3 min: One last try from Rangers, to start it down Braga end before the whistle is blown for full time.

90 + 2 min: Rangers better team the last 20 minutes or so, with the youth of Braga wearing. However, they have missed the finish of Morelos and the devil in the attack.

90 min: Three minutes added when Rangers knocked out a corner, a corner that landed almost at the feet of Goldson who was shaping up to shoot before a pile of Braga bodies prevented.

89 min: Goldson’s sweet header at the back post puts up a shot in Braga’s defense, the ball floats around before the goalkeeper claims some relief.

88 min: Kamara and Aribo try to hook in the middle but the ball goes back to Bassey before Roofe is fouled, right on the edge of the box, Carmo made the mistake, after already receiving a yellow card. He escapes another yellow.

86 min: Lundstram continues to play for Rangers, but his pass to Arfield is poor, just like such a big part of Rangers’ passing game this weekend.

84 min: Yet no Ramsey. His stay at Ibrox is reaching a strange level.

81 min: Game break where there is a seizure in Braga’s ranks. A long break also before Andre Horta leaves the field. Mineiro, where Al Musrati comes in and Castro comes in.

79 min: Braga happy to settle for 1-0? Carlos Carvahal was always a coach who enjoyed attacking, so maybe not.

77 min: Horta and Horta, the Braga brothers, connect and the Rangers have to avoid blocking them, in the end Andre Horta shoots and Allan McGregor hits the ball back to take the safety option.

75 min: Braga change: away go Medeiros and Ruiz, Miguel Fale and Vitor Oliveira continue, Vitinha in short.

73 min: Braga is no longer as fast as before, and Arfield gets to the sideline, and Roofe steps out and decides to take it for the first time, only to smash the ball towards this big sea cliff. He might have made contact there, anything but that. He was trying to shoot a cross that Marco van Basten had tried to make.

71 min .: Near Rangers! Bassey makes a Beckenbauer-like wave from a defense that puts Rangers forward, and Arfield forces a corner, and the Tavernier will take it. It swings over the goal and Goldson is there to head it. And he misses the target! Had to do better.

69 min: Roofe complains that he is useless when he chases down the channel. It has been a lonely effort by Rangers’ forwards for most of the game.

67 min: Flashing for Braga, Gomes cuts in from the left and wings into a shot that lands in the middle of Allan McGregor.

66 min: Lundstram’s long ball aimed at Aribo is cleared away. But it has been a better half so far from Rangers, even though they lacked the quality to make a big impact on Braga.

64 min: Early participation for Roofe, but he sneaks up on his delivery Aribo and handles it when he falls into the box. It is a very weak attempt to demand a penalty.

62 min: And here they come, how could they affect the players now that the Rangers are back in the game? Barisic, Roofe and Aribo continue, followed by Balogun, Sakala and Jack. Shuffling is underway and each of these players has not had the easiest nights.

60 min: Rangers changes are imminent …

59 min: Braga tries to regain the lead but Rangers have regained form and kept it tight. Braga is reduced to sending the ball into dangerous areas.

57 min: Arfield tries to download Matheus but ends up with the goalkeeper deceiving him, not that it did not send a shiver down the spine of Braga’s fans. It was risky. Fabiano also breaks Kamara and that results in a free kick that comes to Arfield to swing. The ball is cleared away. Rangers with momentum? Possibly.

55 min: Rangers get a corner from nowhere and the Tavernier has to do better with this one. Abel Ruiz climbs the highest to cross for Braga.

54 min: Couto continues to cause trouble and Rangers continue to struggle to get the ball clean and up. They are defending well at the moment but need to stay focused.

52 min: Kamara tries his best to catch the ball but Rangers are struggling to get the ball stuck at the moment; no one holds it for long. It sets up countless Braga attacks and enables them to control the property.

50 min: Lundstram forces the ball down the field and Braga presses Rangers players. It’s as if there are more Bragamenn on the field at the moment.

48 min: Medeiros, Couto and Orta carve some beautiful patterns with their passing; Braga is quality clothing. Couto, who gives the Rangers left wing a terrible chase, wins a corner, though one cleared easily.

46 min: We’re going back, no Rangers changes, no Aaron Ramsey. You remember him, Aaron Ramsey, good for Wales.

Halftime: Braga 1-0 Rangers

After starting so well, Rangers started coughing up opportunities and after escaping a goal with VAR, Abel Ruiz scored. In the locker room, Gio has work to do to figure out how to prevent these speedometers. There is a potential gold within Braga’s trembling defense if Rangers can step forward a little more.

45 + 3 min: Gomes, who clearly feels better, hurries past Tavernier then Kamara and shows what an obvious talent is.

45 + 2 min: Arfield, Jack and Lundstram are chased into a corner. Braga’s energy is conquering here.

45 min: Rangers build up an attack then ends with a shot from John Lundstram, only to flag off the field. Four minutes added to this half.

44 min: Braga is one man fewer as Gomes has taken a shot that bounced up for the ball on the sideline. He will be fine to continue but will take his time.

42 min: Braga had come more and more into it, finding space down the edge, as Couto against Kent was somewhat unequal to Kent’s defensive ability.

Goal! Braga 1-0 Rangers (Abel Ruiz, 40)

Balogun’s poor defensive play, which sticks out as a pass from the excellent Couto, finds the striker who beats him outside Allan McGregor and in. Nothing WAS this time, a nice goal but one that could have been defended much better.

39 min: Rangers sit a little further back and need to be wary of the great Couto.

37 min: A break in a game where Ryan Jack takes a hit. He looks a little rough.

36 min: Matt Burtz says: “I’m aware that Max Rushden describes you as a music hipster, but what’s wrong with Def Leppard? Personally, I could usually use more Def Leppard in my life. “

Nothing, I was with Pyromania just this morning. Great band, nice guys, decent Sheffield. I saw them present When Love And Hate Collide on Bramall Lane in 1995, hence the reference.

34 min: Zakala turns Tormena and has time and space to shoot. He wastes what is his best opportunity to date. Braga’s defenders are not the fastest.

32 min: Ryan Kent flies away and seems to have found his way through, only for Couto to suppress the danger. Although Yan Couto is on loan from Manchester City, he has already played for his sister club Girona.

31 min: Braga forced a corner kick from one of these wild attacks, but Rangers messed it up and seemed much more uncertain about themselves as they did 15 minutes ago or so. Ricardo Orta is a growing force in this game, as are Medeiros and Couto.
