Nats predictions for the 2022 media period

Well, here we are. It’s opening day. Alas, do this opening night after noon Countrymen pushed the first field again against the Mets from 16:05 to 19:05 in the hope that all the rain would stop before the team arrives on the field for the first time.

This promises to be a period unlike what we have experienced here for a long time. For the first time since 2011, the Nats are not expected to fight. That does not mean they can not. It just means that most people do not see it happening.

Low expectations can, however, lead to all sorts of uncertainty when trying to predict how the season will play out. And that’s exactly what we’ve got in the 13th annual edition of our opening day questionnaire. (Yes, this annual tradition goes all the way back to the last time that the national tournament was not expected to win. It has finally come full circle.)

There is some consensus among some of our forecasts, but there is a big difference in other categories. Like, we have five different answers to the question: “Who will lead the team in the rescue? When have you seen anything like this before?

As always, many thanks to my colleagues for participating and exposing themselves to the inevitable shame that comes with this. And for those who do not remember: We will republish all these predictions after the end of the season, so we can see how terrible we were.

Enjoy these spring rituals, and whether you’re on your way to the stadium or staying home to watch MASN, hope everyone out there has a wonderful opening day!
