What went wrong at UFC Columbus?

Well, the fun had to stop in the end. David Dvorak turned out to be much more docile than I expected, Viacheslav Borshchev’s wrestling went badly and Kai Kara-France made one of the best attempts I’ve seen from him to win Askar Askarov. Fortunately, big wins from Chris Gutierrez and Manon Fiorot kept money losses to a minimum.

UFC 273 Odds for The Under Card:

Ian Garry (-365) vs. Darian Weeks (+280)
Jairzinho Rozenstruik (-150) vs. Marcin Tybura (+130)
Raquel Pennington (-190) vs. Aspen Ladd (+160)
Mike Malott (-200) vs. Mickey Gall (+170)
Jared Vanderaa (-115) vs. Aleksei Oleinik (-105)
Anthony Hernandez (-190) vs. Josh Fremd (+160)
Piera Rodriguez (-120) vs. Kay Hansen (EVEN)
Julio Arce (-190) vs. Daniel Santos (+160)

Thoughts: Marcin Tybura, Anthony Hernandez and Kay Hansen look like the strongest members of the group … and Ian Garry is not a bad actor.

As frightening as Jairzinho Rozenstruik is, Tybura’s last three victories came over Ben Rothwell, Walt Harris and Greg Hardy – all heavy hitters. At the same time, Rozenstruik disliked Curtis Blaydes’ wrestling, and although “Tybur” is nowhere near a talented artist, he is incredibly resilient.

In the end, the threat of a Rozenstruik death knell is not enough to stop Tybura from being a good investment.

Hernandez has certainly had his share of ups and downs in the Octagon, winning and losing so wonderfully that it’s hard to figure out where he stands in the middleweight division. However, he should be too much for Josh Fremd. That’s because the newcomer to the UFC has real defensive problems and a tendency to retaliate that could easily put his neck in contact with Hernandez’s disgusting nitrogen up front. Stranger also takes this at short notice (information here), so it’s hard to pass Hernandez at better than -200.

Yes, Hansen’s dropped two in a row, but she almost unquestionably deserved the victory over Cory McKenna and the loss to Jasmine Jasudavicius was flyweight. Rodriguez has some serious commitments that Hansen is well placed to take advantage of with his non-stop shooting.

In short, it is definitely worth going in such a different way.

Garry is better than he was against Jordan Williams. In fact, one can expect a much more influential show now that he’s in trouble. Darian Weeks is too limited a striker to disturb the tall and handsome Garry on his feet and his chosen wrestling method makes him vulnerable for the “Future” game on the field. Too crazy for an independent bet, but use Garry to push someone into the positive.

UFC 273 probability on the main card:

Alexander Volkanovski (-720) vs. Chan Sung Jung (+500)
Petr Yan (-475) vs. Aljamain Sterling (+350)
Khamzat Chimaev (-550) vs. Gilbert Burns (+400)
Mackenzie Dern (-120) vs. Tecia Torres (EVEN)
Vinc Pichel (-130) vs. Mark O. Madsen (+110)

Thoughts: In a fight I’m constantly having a hard time judging exactly, I’m in favor of Tecia Torres. Mackenzie Dern’s recent main battle against Marina Rodriguez showed how limited her rise is still. It is clear that Torres is in a different division than she is on her feet. It’s a threat to Rodriguez, of course, but she’s still a generally poor takedown artist.

I like Torres running around her.

To bring it from an even proportion to the positive, put Petr Yan in there. It is obvious that he had realized Aljamain Sterling before he threw everything away with this illegal knee. It’s hard to imagine Sterling getting past one of the sport’s most adaptable fighters when this fighter already has 20 minutes of data to work with. In short, Yan will tear him to his feet, put down his wrestling and claim the undisputed title.

UFC 273 Best Bets:

  • Parlay – Anthony Hernandez & Kay Hansen: Bet $ 100 to Make $ 205
  • Parlay – Marcin Tybura and Ian Garry: Bet $ 80 to Make $ 154.40

There are worse ways to come back from a break than two title fights and a few quality breaks to follow. See you on Saturday, Maniacs.

Current total: $ 1,453.39
